What steps to take to become a mentor for young offenders?
Am interested in becoming a mentor for youth at risk. I am currently working on a school corporation and I know we have many children who are either on probation or who are currently in the judiciary system. I worked as a Mental Health Technician in a juvenile detention center and blocked also worked as a prison guard in a medium security prison for one year. I am certified in the CPI on the condition of instructor. I see the apathy of these children in the school system and the system seems to have already. I can not stop thinking about that if someone had actually empathy when it comes to them and may know what life is really like in a prison that could make a difference. I that submit a plan by the school corporation in a mentoring program, but I want it to be a notch higher professional presentation. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Publications You can read http://www.reentry.gov/publications/juvjust.html I did some research and apparently most of the State Ministries of Justice have programs or links to them. For example, Florida http://www.coj.net/Departments/State+Attorneys+Office+/Jailed+Juvenile+Mentor+Program.htm program
